The basic set up of this poster is clearly the same as that used on the poster that appears below. You have a young lady sat on a dune and shielding her eyes from the sun with her hand. Both the postcards shown here were bought towards the end of this last summer when we were visiting Cromer for the day. I found them on sale in the Tourist Information centre. I always recommend visiting any Tourist Information centre you come across as they are often a good source of cheaper local view postcards and unusual locally produced art postcards and poster designs. These two cards are a good example of what can be found.

After what was an horrendous time getting through security at Orlando Airport, we had a good flight back and are now relaxing back at home in a much less sunny (than Orlando) Southend on Sea here in the UK. So, I thought I would dig out a postcard depicting a scene from my hometown.

I drove along part of the seafront today when we got back, but not past the section shown here. The three shells is a well-known local doughnut and ice-cream stand, and I have had many snacks from here, but what you can see on this early modern postcard has changed considerably. Here the Three Shells can be seen to be right on the edge of the sea. This is no longer the case exactly, as they built a seafront pool here with the water kept in by massive boulder like rocks which arc around from the right side of the building out and around to an area off the left side of this photograph. A kiddies small climbing frame has been placed on the sand area to the left side as well. This makes all this area look totally different, except that the Three Shells is still here.

This is the last webpage posting from my holiday as we fly home tomorrow and my laptop will be packed up any moment now…

This is a postcard I picked up just last year although even when I bought this one the water park you can see bottom right was already closed. As I drove past the site of this old water park two weeks, nearly three in fact, ago I could see that they have built a massive new hotel on this site. So, this is another modern postcard with an out of date but historically interesting image (the ‘Wet and Wild’ water park was very popular and will be remembered by many who holidayed here in the 1990’s and 2000’s)

Also, I am pleased that I have managed to post at least one card on the webpage every day of my holiday except the flight out day and tomorrow, my flight back day. I know it has been Florida and Disney/Universal Studio’s centric, but some other cards, both old and modern have also appeared, and I have always stated that the webpage would flow with my activities and travels, as any collection would. I hope you have enjoyed seeing the cards and reading the many extra images and information which has been posted on our facebook page as well.

This is my favourite non-Disney Florida postcard currently available in the souvenir shops outside of the theme park areas. I like the combination of older postcard and poster styled images. I have a copy of the alligator postcard top right in my collection (I will hunt it down when I get back home). Although this is a non-Disney postcard it can still be included in a Disney collection as the Magic Kingdom Castle can be seen bottom right (we will be in the Magic Kingdom park today until very late as we have tickets for the Christmas Party event being held until 0100hrs tomorrow)

Another postcard from my early French collection, all mostly bought in France in my travels over the last ten-fifteen years. These postcards are numerous and have little real catalogue value, but they have a tremendous history within the French postcard story. So many studio photograph sourced postcards were issued in the early French postcard history that these cards can be picked up for 50p or less (but I am not sure that this will last as at some point interest is going to grow in these)

I was in the Toy Story Land part of the Hollywood Studios theme park today (I ate at Woody’s Lunchbox). I rode the ‘Flying Saucers’ ride and the ‘Toy Story Mania’ ride. Its not my favourite part of the park, but I do enjoy walking around its very clever theming. So, this postcard, bought on my visit to Florida last year, seemed an appropriate one for today’s posting.

Tourists visiting Vienna should have this famous palace on their itinerary. We visited this impressive structure earlier this year and I bought this souvenir as a memento of my visit. I thought that as I have been concentrating on American themed postcards whilst here in Florida on my last holiday of the year, I should perhaps depict a card from Europe from an earlier holiday, just for a bit of variety. Travel broadens the mind they say. It definitely broadens a postcard collection.

During the Christmas season, and that is what the theme park is in at this moment, this attraction gets renamed the ‘JINGLE CRUISE’. We rode this last night in the dark and we had an excellent guide who was probably one of the best I have had on this ride.

I love these earlier golden age sized Walt Disney World postcards as they show parts of attractions still in place which have not appeared on modern postcards for over twenty years now.

Restauranteur and television chef known and best remembered for his love of British cuisine. His television series ‘Rhodes Around Britain’ was an important early food series. At the time of his death he was running two restaurants in Dubai (where he passed away)

I visited here today, and I think that although the Saturn 5 Rocket area is fascinating, and the rocket is an amazing piece of technology it is the Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibition area which is truly jaw dropping when you first see it. This excellent postcard image does not do it justice, but it is a great souvenir of my visit (I bought this one here on my visit last summer – I bought another one today which I had signed by an Astronaut – see my facebook page for images, although I will post images here when I get back home).

This postcard here I bought a couple of years ago (I did not see it today, but I was not spending much time in the shops, so will check next time to see if it is still on sale). When I bought this, it was an exclusive postcard only sold in the Animal Kingdom park

When I was at the recent Nottingham Postcard Fair, I was looking through one dealer’s stock of stamped postcards, which included some postal stationery post cards. In amongst this stock I found these four Tarzan themed cards which all depict film posters for the early Tarzan films which starred Johnny Weissmuller as the titular character. Other than the fact that these were issued in 2004, I have very little details about these four cards, but I loved them and had to have them. This first one is my favourite of the four.  

The special cancellation celebrates the 100^th anniversary of the birth of Johnny Weissmuller, who was born in Szabadfalva (Freidorf), Austria-Hungary which is now part of Romania, thus these cards being produced by POSTA ROMANA, the official postal authority for Romania.

The special cancellation used on this card commemorates Weissmuller’s distinguished swimming career. During the 1920’s he was one of the world’s fastest swimmers and won five Olympic Gold medals (and a bronze for Water Polo). This is reason for the inclusion of the Olympic rings in the cancel. He was the first to swim 100 meters freestyle in under one minute, and the first to swim the 440-yard freestyle in under five minutes. In America he won 52 US National Championships and set more than 50 world records. Allegedly he was undefeated in official competition for the entirety of his competitive career.

This card, and the one below has been cancelled with the first day of issue cancellation for these cards (the top two cards have cancellations from later in the year which relate to Weissmuller). This is dated 02 June 2004, which was the 100^th anniversary date of Weissmuller’s birth (which was on 2^nd June 1904, naturally enough).

Weissmuller is perhaps better known for his Tarzan films than for his swimming, it was certainly how I came across him as I was a huge fan of the Tarzan films which were often shown after the news on weekday evenings on BBC2. I remember often eating my dinner whilst watching them on these school day nights.

Unlike the previous posting this image has all the marks of being a staged photograph, and this one ‘definitely’ has a police officer on it, he can be seen standing on the corner of the road. I love these early photographs as they often hold a plethora of historic details about an area, the shops, the transport and much more.

St Albans is a city in Hertfordshire, here in the UK, north north-west of central London.

Brixton of course has had a more notorious reputation through the later decades of the 20^th century (whether earnt or not), but here the street you can see, on a postcard sent in 1907, looks quite respectable and that looks like quite a big ‘Bon Marche’ (I didn’t know the store has been running for this long!). I liked this photograph because of the horse drawn ‘Brixton’ bus you can see bottom left and I think that’s two police officers on the right side. The picture has been hand-coloured (were the Brixton buses of this era coloured Green?), and you can see that some people were moving whilst this photograph was taken as they appear as blurred images, so this was not an entirely staged picture, which I also liked.

A nice BRIXTON cancel dated 8^th June 1907, not complete as a bit faded top right side, but you can clearly make out the location and the date, which is always nice.

This is a cheap card, maybe somewhere between £1.50 and £2, but it has character non the less, and what else from 1907 can you pick up so cheaply?

We had a cracking last morning in Universal Studios, and I was a bit sorry to be leaving for Disney, but the rest of my family love Disney, and normally I am with them, but today upon arrival we had a bit of a mare with our rooms (long story – but envisage workers fitting an air-con system on the roof immediately outside our room!!). Complaints were made and we did get new rooms, but it was all a bit of a palaver! Anyway, we are here now and complaints to one side we are ready to explore anything new since our last visit, and there is quite a bit… so hopefully the title of this postcard will again be true.

FLORIDA SCRUB JAY

The Florida Scrub Jay is one of the rarest birds in the Florida area. If you want to see one you need to visit Merritt Island, which is a massive wildlife reserve area (and I do mean ‘MASSIVE’) near to the Kennedy Space Centre. I visited here on Monday and I was lucky enough to again see one of these scarce birds, but I also had a close encounter with a Bobcat that jumped out onto the track that I was walking along. As my heart stopped, and me and the Bobcat exchanged looks, I again realised what a fantastic place this island is for anyone who loves wildlife.

I believe this was my fourth time visiting here and on every one of these visits I have been fortunate to see Florida Scrub Jays.

These two postcards depict two of my daughter’s favourite attractions in the ‘Islands of Adventure’ theme park at Universal Studios. My youngest son got soaked today riding the Jurassic Park ride, much like the people on this postcard appear to be.

Tomorrow morning is our last time in the Universal Studio parks as tomorrow afternoon we will be leaving here to move across into Walt Disney World to stay a couple of weeks at the Beach Club Resort (so get ready for an influx of Disney themed postcards appearing here over the next couple of weeks, assuming I get internet access).

Both the rides depicted here are ‘Wet’ rides, in fact, they are both ‘Very Wet’ rides. Unfortunately, or perhaps not if you like staying dry, the Popeye ride was closed this week for refurbishment and maintenance, but I have not lost any sleep over this (the last time I rode this one I got so wet it looked like I had gone swimming in my clothes!)

It should also be noted that none of these postcards are still on sale, and they have not been for quite a few years now. So, if you want any souvenirs like this for your trip to these parks you will need to trawl eBay to get them

Rapallo is a town on the Italian Riviera coastline. This early postcard shows a painting of the town, and we know this is an early postcard because it has an undivided back and space on the front for a short message to be written.

Some of the earlier Science Museum postcards depict items from the museums collection which have not appeared on their postcards for some years now, probably decades. They are also becoming quite collectible and can be hard to track down. This is a superb example of one of these cards.

I picked this card up for a few pennies a couple of years ago. It was cheap because it has some damage down the left side, but I don’t think it damages the visual appeal for me, and at the price I was happy to add it to my collection. I considered that I was saving this one from being thrown away, which I think would have been a shame.
