NEW YORK
REPRODUCTIONS OF OLDER POSTCARDS ON NEW POSTCARDS
AS SOLD AT A NUMBER OF NEW YORK LOCATIONS
Only a couple of postcards here, but they show possibly non-postcard poster like artwork related to New York. Every so often whilst I was visiting locations in the city, I would see other cards published by this prolific company

This one was not on sale at the Empire State Building gift shop, but it is a design that could have been as the great building is featured, but to be honest it could also have been sold at the Statue of Liberty museum gift shop as well! For me the attraction here is the great ocean liner in the foreground.

ELLIS ISLAND
REPRODUCTIONS OF OLDER POSTCARDS ON NEW POSTCARDS
AS SOLD IN BOTH THE STATUE OF LIBERTY GIFT SHOP AND THE ELLIS ISLAND GIFT SHOP
As with the Empire State Building postcards depicted below, I also came across postcards by the same publisher showing old postcards depicting the Statue of Liberty and the nearby Ellis Island. In fact, to be honest, I came across these ones first and unlike with the Empire State Building ones I did not buy everyone, but I did still get quite a few, as you will see.

Another design which grabbed my attention because of the inclusion of an airship, although this has clearly been added to the photograph. I have a collection of zeppelin related postcards both originals from the 1930’s and modern reproduction or anniversary issues.

I could not resist this one as I think this is a beautiful piece of artwork. I am also not sure if this was a postcard or another piece of paper or card ephemera that has been copied.

This is the odd one out in this selection as I did not pick this one up at the Statue of Liberty. This one I found later at another location, but it does fit in nicely with the above selection.
EMPIRE STATE BUILDING
REPRODUCTIONS OF OLDER POSTCARDS ON NEW POSTCARDS
AS SOLD IN THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING GIFT SHOP
I have always been fascinated in the history behind the Empire State Building, mainly because of its strong connection with the early days of American television history. On my previous visit to New York in 2018 I got to see the building for the first time, but I could not visit it because of timing. This year (2020) I finally got my chance to visit the building and travel up to the observation level. There is also a large and superb gift shop as well where you can buy just about every type of Empire State Building souvenir, including of course postcards.
It was here that I came across a series of postcards which reproduce images of older postcards depicting the Empire State Building. I went through the racks and sorted out a copy of each of the designs which resulted in a stack of 20 of these cards, and some other postcards in different formats.
When I took these up to the till the server was amazed how many I had, and we got into a discussion about postcards and he was fascinated in how many postcards I had and how many I was buying. He told me that he had not known that there were so many different versions in this series. He then very kindly told me that he was only going to charge me for 10 of the cards. I was quite surprised, but it just goes to show that discussing your hobby with people can lead to all sorts of kind acts.
So, here are the 20 cards in this series currently available at the Empire State Building gift shop.

I did like the fact that not all the postcards reproduced in this series were necessarily old postcards from the earlier period of this building’s history (it was completed in 1931). This one looks as if it is from the early 1970’s era.

This one was a must have item as it makes mention of the television tower. It is also therefore my favourite card from this selection.

From the different code number reference, it is clear, that this card is from a different series, although the Empire State Building still makes an appearance which is why it is sold in the buildings gift shop.

I have to be honest here and say that I initially intended not buying this one as it did not immediately appeal. Then, when I had picked out every other design, I realised that it would be a shame to only have one card missing from my collection. So, I went back and grabbed a copy. I am now glad that I did.
